Description

Told with intelligence, precision, and an essential artfulness, Laura Benedict’s haunting and sharp ISABELLA MOON is not unlike The Lovely Bones, but bigger, faster, and with a much broader scope. With box canvas quality checked for scratches and marks, we ensure that the product we produce is of the best possible quality. Benedict tackles the gruesome and the disturbing without hesitation; however, Kate never takes shape, morphing from scared and meek to strong and vengeful without ever developing a personality.

Throughout it all, Benedict shows a deft hand at plotting and a keen eye for characterization, not just where Kate is concerned but across the full swath of the community caught up in this rich, multi-layered drama. Any of you city slickers who imagine small-town life is dull ought to read Laura Benedict's suspenseful, sexy, and haunting debut novel, Isabella Moon, as this book set in Carystown, Kentucky, proves otherwise.

Though it reminded me of Jodi Piccoult's early books, it is entertaining, though far-fetched in many ways.

I often suffer from "blank face" syndrome when I read: the characters are there in my imagination, but their faces are blank. the small town will be forever changed by the disappearance of the young girl, undone by murder, secrets, and lies? The characters in the book were well developed, except for Sheriff Bill; he just fell a little flat to me. ISABELLA MOON was first published by Ballantine Books, and was/is available in hardcover, paperback, ebook, and audio. There was no clear point of view and I felt like I was being bounced around all over the place without any clear guidance of where my frame of reference for character and story should be. Not much was made of the reveals of the various murderers; they were sort of thrown toward the end of the story, but it didn't really matter because any mystery aficionado could have figured it out about a third of the way through the book. Mostly, it's because I'd been gorging myself on Young Adult novels like Blue Bloods and House of Night for a few months. The most engaging scenes are Kate’s flashbacks that unfold alongside the present story as both become increasingly sordid. And Carystown’s residents are about to discover that even though the past is buried, it can rise again–with a vengeance.

She’d much rather be back at her old school, with her old friends, who are much more fun to play with. Celestine accepts the decision with good grace, but Victoria Stitch is consumed with her obsession for power. The dialogue was stilted and filled with cliches, and sounded nothing like how real people would speak. Brooks places the epicenter of the Bigfoot war in a high-tech hideaway populated by the kind of people you might find in a Jurassic Park franchise: the schmo who doesn’t know how to do much of anything but tries anyway, the well-intentioned bleeding heart, the know-it-all intellectual who turns out to know the wrong things, the immigrant with a tough backstory and an instinct for survival. Just think of all the books that (often deservedly) are lost to time because they were published in paper–paper that wasn’t acid-free.

Laura Benedict is the Edgar- and ITW Thriller Award- nominated author of eight novels of suspense, including the THE STRANGER INSIDE (Publishers Weekly starred review). The crystal keeper gazed around him at the shards of impure crystal, glittering furiously on the floor, and shivered with a terrible sense of foreboding. Based on the world of Isadora Moon, everyone’s favourite half fairy, half vampire – perfect for those who enjoy their magic and sparkle with a bite! The murder mysteries are pretty intriguing, and I think throughout the book, no fewer than 5 deaths are investigated. For Kate has long-buried secrets of her own that the Sheriff's enquiries are threatening to uncover. A week after the night she chases but fails to catch a mysterious trespasser outside her town house, some unknown party texts Tempe four images of a corpse that looks as if it’s been chewed by wild hogs, because it has been.
