KS: [laughs] Really? That’s a load of [expletive]. He wasn't saving himself when I was with him. It bothers me that people find it necessary to paint pictures. Truth and honesty is my thing. KS: I’ve walked out on interviews, when they’re so beneath me and what I’m trying to say. And then there are people like Tyra who are hypocrites. Women especially, who have slept their way through their whole careers. And it’s not a secret within the Hollywood circle. This is far and away the worst of them. First of all, Steffans tries to identify herself as a "video vixen" but then reveals in the book that most women in music videos are actually professional models and have little to do with the hip hop social scene.

KW: Why were you so very tight-lipped about the nature of your relationships with all the celebrities you knew the first time we spoke? KS: There are some people who are very powerful who I will never name, because I want to be able to work in this town when I’m done. That’s why it’s easy to give you throwaway names like Jay-Z. I’m not in the music business. I don't work for Def Jam. KS: I’m sure it’s uncomfortable. But, no, he’s not upset. This is not news to him, or his wife, or his family. It’s not like his wife just found out. When Diddy gets really high and paranoid and warns Xzibit about Superhead, "she'll have you on video with your fingers in your booty." I have - I listened to "Confessions of a Video Vixen" and it blew me away for all the wrong reasons. I could not believe Steffans' reasoning for intentionally becoming pregnant by her allegedly violent boyfriend because she believed that the baby would provide her with the strength to leave. Instead, that poor child was treated as a sponge to soak up the violent family dynamic and Steffans' admitted repeated abandonment of her own son.

Additional info

Im not going to lie, Im am so ashamed that I was dying to read this book. Not because I am a fan of Karrine Steffans because I didnt even know who the hell she was when I was told about the book. Embarrissingly enough, I wanted some inside celeb juice. So I read this book (using the word book loosely) to see what it was about. I must first say that if you do not have the creative ability to consider yourself a writer, you shouldnt write. If you dont read books often (im only assumming based of her style of writing) you shouldnt write. She definitely should have had a ghost writer. Her story might be more interesting if told by someone else. As it is, she's a pretty lousy writer (grammar/language wasn't as bad as I expected but narrative needed an editor in a BIG way), and I can't tell if it's the writing or the person that fails to compel me or evoke true understanding. Is she not a good or interesting person, or is she just not capable of communicating what is good or interesting about her? In my honest opinion, Karrine went looking for love in all the wrong places because of foundation built for her was weak. Karrine’s mother and ex told her constantly how she was unloved and the cycle continued in this book and her other books. In this book, Karrine also battled depression, alcoholism, and drug addiction that built on the destructive cycle she was already on. All three. I'm glad that she has become a successful author, but I wish I could dispatch a therapist immediately to help her deal with her own admitted lies and manipulations she employed to get what she wanted. The people that she actively sought out to indulge in a dangerous life were cold and calculating men that repeatedly showed their true nature to her, a fact of which she admitted herself. She became one of them as well, but still blames them for the choices she willingly made at the expense of her own son. I would almost never call a woman a slut. I think it endorses a really sexist idea of women's sexuality. This book really stretched my beliefs though. Steffans tries to make it sound like she had relationships with a lot of famous hip hop stars and athletes but when she gets down to the details she mainly slept with them, sometimes in exchange for financial support.

I found way too many instances in which she was an absolute hypocrite in her personal relationships while preaching the necessity and value of morality in her new life as a successful author. Now with new information, instant New York Times bestselling memoir from a former hip hop video dancer. KW: I'd think that the two of you should have had a great conversation in that case, swapping stories. KS: There are a few things that tend to infuriate me. One is ignorance, because I have become accustomed to speaking to very intelligent people like Gore Vidal and Al Franken on a regular basis, since dating Bill Maher.

The forthcoming adult film, appropriately titled "Superhead," features the video vixen alongside adult film star, Mr. Marcus, in her one and only scene in the porn industry. KW: Did you mean to imply that Puff Daddy, I mean, Diddy and Xzibit are gay when you mentioned their taking you to a gay nightclub? It was horribly written. It was written as if she was sitting on the stoop, in the hood after the club telling her girls a story about this big time celeb she just smashed.Lccn 2005048176 Ocr tesseract 4.1.1 Ocr_detected_lang en Ocr_detected_lang_conf 1.0000 Ocr_detected_script Latin Ocr_detected_script_conf 0.9903 Ocr_module_version 0.0.9 Ocr_parameters -l eng Old_pallet IA-NS-0000371 Openlibrary_edition

Celebrity tell all books are still juicy even after all these years, and Karrine Steffans's book is no exception. This is a cautionary tale about what happens when you don't look beyond the bright lights and glamour of the celebrity world and face certain harsh realities, and what it does to women who come into it as a hanger on. Just finished reading this book, and it was certainly very interesting, especially for the high "wow" factor of all the names that she lists in some detail. BUT, I have noticed that Karrine never fully takes responsibility for her own actions. She blames her mother, her father, the men that didn't come through for her....everyone but herself, really. I found some unsavory comments that she made about Tyra Banks after their tiff on Tyra's show and yet again it proves the type of person she is: I'm no gushing Tyra fan myself, but there was no call for her to broadcast Tyra's real or alleged dalliances for the world. If Karrine decided that she wanted to write a book as a cautionary tale to young women and girls, then she should do it selflessly, fully aware that she would not be placed on a pedestal for this act. This memoir — part tell-all, part cautionary tale — shows how Karrinne came to be the confidante of so many, why she kept their secrets, and how she found herself in Hollywood after a life marked by physical abuse, rape, and drugs — all before she was twenty-six. By sharing her emotionally charged story, she hopes to shed light on an otherwise romanticized industry.

She wrote [ Confessions Of A Video Vixen] to expose on Jay-Z, Ja Rule, P Diddy and all these other guys in hip-hop, and now we can see her just before she joined those guys," Howard Levine, national sales manager of Vivid, told AVN.com. "Before she blew the lid off the hip-hop world, she blew Mr. Marcus." When it comes to why Karrine wrote Confessions of a Video Vixen, I didn’t believe that Karrine woke up one day thought “I’m going to go sleep with Ja Rule, Usher, Diddy, and others, so I can write a book about it”. One lesson I have learned about stories is that there always more to them and that is the case with this book. Therefore, when I’m in an interview with someone who is not intelligent, but flat-out ignorant, idiotic and stupid, or just an ass, it really gives me a headache.
